This week, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has made a commitment to driving forward plans to become the second US state to ban single-use plastic bags. In proposals, Cuomo is including this commitment in his 2019 executive budget.

During the announcement, Cuomo bemoaned a lack of federal leadership on environmental issues and how this has led to the increasing amount of plastic waste being created.

He said: “While the federal government is taking our environmental progress backwards and selling out our communities to polluters and oil companies, in New York we are moving forward with the nation’s strongest environmental policies and doing everything in our power to protect our natural resources for future generations.”
