Saving our oceans and re-using plastic waste for our everyday use!

Cornish organisation Oltco is using plastic waste to form a new material that it’s using to create driveways. Oltco states that it’s ‘Recycle Bound‘ resin solution is made using plastic drink bottles, food packaging and straws.

The company’s directors, Tom Stringer and Johnny Pearce, developed Recycle Bound in a bid to help tackle plastic pollution. In the UK alone it’s estimated that we throw away 8.5 billion straws every year. These often end up in landfill or in the case of coastal towns – in the sea!

More straws than you can count.

Approximately 3,000 plastic straws, which Oltco obtains from its local recycling plant creates a square metre of Recycle Bound. In fact, 150,000 would be recycled in the process of laying an average driveway of approx 50 square metres.

Co-director Johnny said: “As a native of Newquay, I became increasingly concerned about the huge amount of waste plastic which was polluting the coastline of Cornwall. The team and I are passionate about making a difference to the community and the world around us, including the natural environment, so it was important to us to try and help.”
